Hello Friends,
December 1, 2012 was World AIDS Day and in Zambia we were part of a march with thousands of people for this cause which has taken so many lives. Below are pictures of our family and the organization I helped start and serve as the Executive Director of, Expanded Church Response (ECR) marching. Next month, January 5th, it will be 10 years since our family set foot and planted our lives with the people here. At that point AIDS was taking 6,000 lives every day with 8,000 becoming newly infected every day. We are seeing things reverse here in Zambia, led in part by the work of the church expanding their response to HIV/AIDS. Through our work with ECR we have seen the attitude of the church change towards HIV/AIDS. The church has awakened and is out of its denial of the problem. ECR has trained of over 2,000 home based caregivers from out of the church all around Zambia to reach their own communities and make a massive, life saving (quite literally) difference. We provided a range of care and support to over 40,000 orphans and vulnerable children. We are changing how church leaders look at leadership, not being like a Chief to be served, but to be a servant to lift up and bring out the best in people through Christ Jesus. Out of this greatest tragedy Africa has seen, greater than slavery, we're seeing seeds being planted for a new Africa.
How To Pray:
- Please pray for the people here still going through unimaginable suffering (many dying without even having an aspirin through horrific weeks and months of pain and agony). We're helping make these cases fewer now because of the life saving ART drugs many can get here for free.
- Pray for our ministry here which is simply overwhelming- pray that we will get the many really important things done we need to do and not just be consumed by the massive amount of urgent needs.
- Please also pray for a special project we're trying to complete that's been hanging on for over six months and we just can't seem to get done. Pray that we will finish it because it will really help us in our communication with you and all that God is doing here.
- Pray for our Zambia staff's health. Pray for our friends in the states who we (and they) are really wanting to connect with our work here. We need them so badly and want to get the other project done so we can move on to the work with them.
Your prayers can move mountains, and we need a mountain range moved. Know though that every good thing we've done here is because of your prayers.
